CDN short for content delivery network is a network of proxy servers that are placed at strategic points across the globe. The primary objective of deploying the CDN is to deliver content at high speed to the content requester and minimize latency. When you use a CDN, your web pages are replicated and distributed across multiple servers. When a visitor to your site requests for some content, it is delivered to them from the server that is closest to them geographically.

Due to the proximity, the web pages reach the visitor’s browser at amazing speed and they can consume the service they are looking for without much waiting to do. CDNs are mandatory in today’s competitive and fast-paced world. The consumers approach a site at different times mostly, using their mobile devices and do not like to wait long for a page to load. They just close the site and move on to another site that works faster. It means a site using CDN has more chances of retaining visitors and improving conversions.

The visitors leave the site fully satisfied having got the information they wanted rapidly and will return to the site as and when they want more content. CDNs also can manage traffic spikes. This is possible since the visitor requests are distributed across the network and the load is diversified reducing the burden on any one server.

Speed is an important criterion for SEO. With a cloud CDN your site can improve your page rankings and enable you to have a wider exposure over the internet and improve your reach to new markets. It also lowers the network loads as it redirects the visitors to edge servers which balances the load equally. Redirecting the traffic to edge servers ensures a better balance of load without any sacrifice in speed- enhancing the user-experience which can result in more conversions.
