CDN is an abbreviation. It is the short form of the term, Content Delivery Network.

A Content Delivery Network or a CDN, is a system, comprising of multiple servers, those are distributed over different locations. Thus, it forms a network of servers. This network of servers delivers pages and many other web site contents to a particular user, who makes a request for that specific web site content. This delivery of content is made to a user, based on the user’s geographic location, the origin of the demanded web page and the geographic location of the content delivery server.

Content Delivery Network service is very effective in making the speed of the delivery of the demanded web site content, very fast. It is exclusively effective for those web sites, which are globally available and are having high traffic of web site visitors. The speed of the web page content delivery to the user depends on the distance between Content Delivery Network server and the user, who made the request for web page content.

Content Delivery Network is also effective in providing protection to the web page contents from huge surges in the traffic of web site visitors.

How Does A CDN Work?

When a user sends a request for a web page content, the content delivery server that is nearest to the request making visitor, responds to this request. The Content Delivery Network then makes several copies of the web page and disperses them to geographically different locations through a network of servers. The contents of the page are cached in this process.

When a user’s request is received for a web page, that is a part of that Content Delivery Network, this request is redirected to the server that is geographically closest to the request sender, to deliver the cached web content. It is done from the server of the originating web site.

CloudOYE, the leading content delivery network service provider, powers this active Cloud hosting community. CloudOYE ensures delivery of contents at an amazing speed.
