What Is SaaS?

SaaS or Software as a Service is a method of software delivery by a third party provider that enables customers to access applications over the internet. SaaS is one among the three main categories of cloud computing.

The other two are IaaS or Infrastructure as a Service PaaS or Platform as a Service.In this model of cloud computing, the software vendor hosts and maintains the servers, databases, and codes that constitute the application.

These applications are hosted in the cloud and can be used in a wide range of tasks. Some examples of SaaS are Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, etc. SaaS is often called service on demand since utilizing is like renting software rather than buying it.

Usually, users subscribe to the software on a monthly basis. SaaS holds many benefits for both individual users and organizations. For example, there are no initial setup costs and no additional hardware costs.The usage is scalable,with automated updates, cross device compatibility, and accessibility from any location.

The client pays for what they use and they can even customize and white-label the applications. The perfect example of businesses utilizing SaaS is office software where tasks related to accounting, sales, planning, and invoicing can all be performed through SaaS.
