What is PaaS?

Platform as a service (PaaS) is a cloud computing model used for delivering applications over the net. The primary aim or purpose of PaaS is to offer a platform to allow developers to build, run and manage applications and services over the internet, thereby dispensing with the need of building and maintaining the infrastructure required for app development. The primary advantage offered by PaaS is that it makes testing, development and deployment of applications super quick.

Virtualization, servers, storage, bandwidth, networking, tools, etc are provided by the third party service providers thereby eliminating any need for users to spend resources building in-house hardware and software to develop or run a new application. PaaS services come with preconfigured features allowing customers the freedom to choose features they need for application development and do away with the ones that they do not require.
