Web Scale IT

Gartner came up with the term Web Scale IT in 2013.

Normal, traditional enterprises are unable to operate at the speed and scale of huge organizations, like Google, Amazon, etc. These large companies use a pool of IT services and solutions that defy scalability. This enables them to offer agile and top-quality services.

The concept of building, designing, and managing data center infrastructure in such a manner that it challenges scalability is what Web Scale IT is all about. This includes all the approaches, measures, and systems that allow large, cloud-based companies to offer greater levels of service delivery in terms of automation, agility, and flexibility.

The Main Components of this Concept are:

• A risk- accepting, continuously learning work culture

• Programmable management

• Novel software

• Open approach to hardware

• Agile processes

These platforms are open-approach, which means they allow the organization to choose technologies that are perfectly suited to their requirements. That relieves them of the issue of vendor lock-in.
