Existence of private clouds is critically significant for effective utilization of private clouds as per the recent research. According to a survey that involved hundreds of IT professionals it was established by 43 percent respondents that public as well as private clouds should be regarded as technologies of equal magnitude that have potential to have profound impact on the overall industry. These are followed by virtual desktop infrastructure (41 percent) and converged infrastructure (30 percent).
Latest tech boosts IT infrastructures
It is encouraging sign to observe that large majority of IT professionals are engaged in investigation and effective implementation of cloud computing while a minority (14 percent) expressed that their facilities lack the ability to embrace needs of modern business.
Research also points out involvement of 50 percent professionals in research and development of the latest technologies such as converged infrastructure, server virtualization, containers, mobile computing, and software defined networking to name a few. Significant majority of enterprises are in the process of piloting and deploying Hadoop and Big Data thus highlighting the fact that these technologies are spearheading the development of IT segment.
State of cloud market
There are encouraging signs as far as cloud adoption trends are concerned. Growth in private cloud adoption was recorded as 77 percent in 2016 over 63 percent in 2015. This has spurred hybrid cloud market from 58 percent to 71 percent in the same period.
Large proportion of cloud users have demonstrated that by combining public variable infrastructure with dedicated private resources it is possible to implement hybrid cloud without impacting cost efficiency.
Cost considerations of cloud
Cost has been one of the commonest concerns while adopting cloud computing in enterprise IT infrastructures. In fact, there has been a rise in number of respondents that attribute cost as one of the noteworthy issues.
The significant rise in the number of respondents is closely associated with complexities of cloud cost management, and lack of expertise as well as resources. The gravity of cloud server cost efficiency has lead number of IT professionals to believe that it is the most daunting problem being faced by cloud industry.
Workload distribution
If we study the structure of hybrid clouds, it can be implied that organizations having cloud cost concerns have adopted combination of three public clouds plus three private clouds. Ideally, the combination needs to be 1.5 plus 1.5 as public plus private clouds. In addition to this companies are experimenting on 1.3 private clouds and reserving 1.7 private clouds for running applications. It is found that such a combination results in better cost efficiency than using only private or only public cloud.
In terms of workload distribution in cloud, one survey has reported that there is a consistent growth in number of workloads that are being moved to public as well as private clouds.
Thanks to the development efforts in private cloud hosting technology, it is observed that adoption of private cloud has significantly increased across all categories with the growth rates hovering around 10 percent.
There is an impressive growth of private cloud adoption along with public cloud in large organizations that are operating more than 1000 Virtual Machines. In such enterprises private cloud adoption surpasses public cloud by five percent. There is need to consider enhancement of prolonged virtualization environments, which are rechristened as private cloud.
Impact of private and public cloud
It was noted that 43 percent respondents felt that public and private cloud iterations are poised to influence enterprises over the next three years. This is followed by other technologies such as virtual desktop and converged infrastructure.
Many companies are struggling to prepare a roadmap for initiation of adopting digital technologies. The major part of discussion revolves around whether to go for full throttle public cloud adoption or developing an on-site private cloud capability.
It has been clearly understood by most of the organizations that have adopted cloud computing that public as well as private cloud approach have ability to launch new business solutions online instantly.
In the course of discussion that focuses on digital transformation, it is found the majority of arguments revolve around the need to build private cloud networks for supporting public cloud adoption. Such an arrangement is necessary for a smooth transformation to build an infrastructure that is primarily supported by cloud.
