Along with PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service), IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) is a fundamental cloud computing service model. Just like other cloud computing services, IaaS too provides access to computing resources in a virtualized environment.
In this model, the provider, on behalf of the user, hosts servers, storage, software, hardware, and other infrastructural components. The client can use these resources to build their own IT platforms. The providers also handle backup, system maintenance, and resiliency planning, along with hosting the client’s applications. IaaS services are utilized by clients on a pay-per-use basis, which can be hourly, weekly, or monthly.
The client would have to be careful, however, that they are not being charged for any unauthorized services. A major benefit of IaaS platforms is that they provide highly scalable, easily adjustable resources, making them excellent for temporary, experimental, or changeable workloads. Other advantages are automation of administrative tasks and policy-based services.
