Virtual Machine

Virtual machine is an operating system that has one or more applications running in a partitioned environment within a computer. The partitions run as independent computers and enables using different operating systems which are termed as guest operating systems. The virtual machines have many advantages.

Multiple operating systems run one single server which cuts out the need of individual machines and the main benefit is of saving space and power consumption. The virtual machines (VMs) are isolated from one another and are not affected by each other’s activities. Even if one of the application crashes, the others continue to function and operate without any hassles. The VMs function as an independent computer does. The VM can be moved easily from one server to another to balance the workloads. The VMs use the hardware more efficiently and controls and reduces on the maintenance and operational costs. They are highly reliable and are used effectively for backups, disaster recovery and other system tasks.
