Gallery

Gallery is a web based photo album organizer that provides space in a website to maintain photos, videos, images etc. Gallery project is now in its 3rd version that provides seamless audio, video and photo sharing. It is open source and free to download and use. Gallery 3 runs on the Linux/Unix platforms and require Apache web server 2.2 or above, PHP 5.2.3 or above and MySQL 5 or later database.

Features of Gallery 3.0

• It allows users to view albums, photos, in different image levels like full size, rotate and next features, view slideshows, read comments, post comments, search for keywords, subscribe to photos or albums, receive email notifications about updates and changes. The users can also edit their user name and passwords. It has the facility to recover password, allows change of password, select language and has security access with CAPTCHA or similar protection.

• Editors are authorized to create albums, upload photos/videos, movies, rearrange photos, move photos and albums, edit permissions levels of users, upload Watermark and apply to photos, rotate, edit or delete photos and tag albums and photos.

• Administrators have the powers to view dashboard, create, delete and edit users, create groups, add users to groups, import from previous Gallery versions, view plugins, activate or deactivate plugins that are available, manage comments settings, Watermark settings and image block settings, configure blocks, choose and configure themes and configure toolkit.

There are several more features that the third edition has decided not to implement. It was that some features were not being used at all and so the developers are likely to discard them in a phased manner. The site went into hibernation since there was nobody to help develop and maintain the project. Gallery team is not actively concentrating on the project and may likely be closed down due to lack of resources.
