Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protects data that is being sent from a web browser to web server by encrypting it. It is commonly used to secure vital information such as credit card or debit card payments, net banking transactions, and so forth. It helps protect sensitive data so that data cannot be captured during its transfer from web browser to web server. Reliability of SSL certificate depends on reputation of Certifying Authority. You can view SSL certificate by clicking on the ‘lock’ symbol in browser window to view general information such as:

• name of issuing authority,
• issued to (website), and,
• validity period

SSL certificate also ensures details of identity of a remote computer to user and also proves user’s identity ton a remote computer. The Certificate also provides in depth. It provides in-depth details about version, extensions, critical extensions, and properties. In the last tab of the SSL certificate you will find Certification Path as well as Certificate Status. This security protocol is the most commonly used protocol to assure safety of transaction to visitors.
