Apache Server

Apache server is a fast, secure and highly reliable web server software. It is distributed under open source license and available free. Users can customize it to suit their varying needs as they have a wide range of add-ons and extensions available in the form of a public library.

Apache server was first developed in 1995 by a group of about 20 programmers that called themselves as the Apache group as a mark of respect for Native American Apache Indian tribe.

The first version of Apache was written for UNIX. Later with the Apache Version 2 it is further developed and runs on most UNIX based operating systems (Linux, Digital UNIX, Solaris), Amiga OS, Windows and Mac Operating systems. Apache supports both dynamic and static websites that have scripting languages like PHP, Python or Perl. It is said about 67% of the websites on the internet run on the Apache server and a majority of the WordPress hosting providers adopt the Apache server software.
