You may have decided to take the plunge into dedicated hosting to boost your business further. When you do sign up for dedicated hosting and start enjoying the benefits it offers, you soon find yourself catering to a really large clientele. However in case the hard disk of the server crashes for some reason, you are in a fix.
This is because backups and data restoration services for dedicate servers may not be available for you. For clients of dedicated hosting, it is important to realize that the site cannot be backed up from a control panel. The restoration must be carried out by an admin user and there are certain specific methods to be followed.
To run the following commands, you will need SSH access. All backups for these servers can be accessed from the directory /mnt/backup. When you have to restore some data from a recent backup you must rename directory of the site you are keen to restore. So, when your website has been named example.com, you must rename it to example.com.old. You have to create an empty site folder which is called example.com and then run "rsync" command for copying all the data onto the new blank folder.
When you require older backups, snapshots are available in the .zfs and the snapshot directory. To get some data from a snapshot again, you will have to rename directory of the site that you are keen to restore and then create a black directory to run rsync.
